Descent into Darkness
Hello. From the gutter.
Where the ragged people dwell.
One step off the pavement.
To our private little hell.
It's dark here in the gutter.
Where the city refuse flows.
The stench of death decaying.
Fills a wind that never blows.
We are legion, we are many.
We children of the moon.
The gutter is our playground.
Our damnation, and our tomb.
We cried out for salvation.
But our prayers, they didn't rise.
For us beyond the gutter.
Lay deafened ears and blinded eyes.
Our desperation turned to hatred.
And my heart, it turned to stone.
Vengeant demons crept upon me.
Till my thoughts were not my own.
Silence became whispers.
And whispers turned to screams.
So many haunting voices.
Always heard, but never seen.
"Kill them all!" they shouted.
"Kill the ones who passed you by."
"Spill their blood in retribution."
"For your prayers that did not rise."
I stood resistant for a time.
But a demon never rests.
Day and night they taunted me.
I bowed to their behest.
Then came a sudden silence.
Like a calm before the squall.
It was time to face my destiny.
And heed the Master's call.
Thus began my journey.
Into darkness and discord.
The prey became the hunter.
Now they fear what they ignored.
The first? I can't remember.
It's been so long ago.
All the countless pleas for mercy.
As the blood begins to flow.
And the last? I cannot say.
I'm just a soldier in this war.
Recruited by the Master.
To serve forevermore.
So the next time someone asks you.
For a moment of your time.
Think of me before you scorn them…
Because vengeance will be mine.
